JJ Vargas

At the age of five, my musical journey began with piano lessons under Roberto Mata, followed by studies at the Universidad de Costa Rica’s children's piano program. There, I was introduced to classical music, which has been a constant in my life ever since. However, it wasn’t until I discovered World and New Age music of the ’80s and ’90s—artists like Enya, Vangelis, Loreena McKennitt, Kitaro, Yanni, and Sarah Brightman—, and movie soundtracks of the same years, that I knew I wanted to dedicate myself to music. Something in those genres sparked a creative impulse that led me to compose my own works.
Later, I continued my piano studies with Scarlett Brebion, then the official pianist of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Costa Rica, and completed my Music Production studies at VonKelemen Academy, and later, obtained a Master in Music for Films and Advertisement at EARTES academy.
In my career so far, I have released three concept albums, composed music for a film, an art exhibition, and a play, and created video game music packs available online. I have also worked extensively as a ghost composer on various freelance platforms. My lifelong love of video games naturally merged with my passion for music, making it the industry I am the most interested today.
Now, it’s time to fully embrace this industry with passion and purpose. If you need music for a creative project—whether a video game, film, documentary, or series—don’t hesitate to reach out. Together, we can create something truly beautiful!
